Week 2

posted 3 Jun 2014, 07:17 by Group Design Projects Imperial

Week 2 and GAIA (Geotechnical Analysis and investigation Agency) are well into their project of redeveloping a currently unused site in central London. With tube tunnels and strategic sewers littering the top corner of our site and contaminated ground and planning restrictions aplenty, progressing with development ideas has not been easy.

With no time for games, we have moved swiftly through our programme, having been advised to move forward selection of the final development design by the client. Our client also wants us to consider long term sustainability, including reuse of the piles for the future.

Another challenging part of the project is designing our basement, where all vehicular movement will take place. We need to carefully consider the hydrogeology of the site and make sure that we do not negatively impact any surrounding tunnels.

We have been lucky enough to have had two critical meetings now, as opposed to others who have only had one. The feedback has been very helpful and we are learning how to be more self-critical throughout the process thanks to our supervisors and we’ve got plenty to get on with.
